第九届三维织物及其应用国际会议

Textiles made into three dimensions (3D Textiles) have been widely used in many fields because of the special characteristics they offer, where 3D structural integrity, manageable fibre orientation, and shape-ability all contribute to achieving properties and performance required for end applications. Recent years have witnessed the developments and progress in engineering and modelling of various solid, hollow, shell and nodal 3D textiles for applications in aerospace, transport, marine, wind energy, medical, and ballistic protection. Technologies involved in manufacturing 3D textiles include weaving, knitting, braiding, embroidery, filament winding and nonwoven. Improving manufacturing technologies, better understanding of micro-structure and properties, effects of defects, damage mechanisms and long term performance when used in engineering applications remain of main concern for further research. The event will serve as an exclusive forum of distinguished engineers and scientists where they present and exchange ideas and share their wealth of knowledge regarding 3D textile architecture, properties and their applications.

This series of conferences started in Manchester UK in 2008 by the late Professor John Hearle and Dr Xiaogang Chen of TexEng Software Ltd at the University of Manchester with more than 150 attendees from Industry and academia. The conference continued in Greenville, SC, USA in 2009, Wuhan, China in 2011, Aachen, Germany in 2012, Delhi, India in 2013, Raleigh, NC, USA in 2015, Roubaix, France in 2016, and returned to Manchester, UK in 2018 on its 10-year anniversary. It has become an important gathering of the global textile engineering and application communities. The conferences have proved to be popular among academic researchers as well as industrialists working in practical problems of textiles, 3D reinforced composite materials and structures.

In addition to the electronic proceedings to the 8th Conference, we also published a special issue with 25 selected papers in the Springer journal of Applied Composite Materials. We aim to publish another special issue and an edited book for the forthcoming event.

We are now pleased to announce that TexEng Software Ltd in association with the University of Manchester, UK, and Zhongyuan University of Technology, China will organise the 9th World Conference in 3D Fabrics and Their Applications in Zhengzhou, China during 2-3 April 2020, hosted by the Zhongyuan University of Technology, one of the leaders in textile engineering education and research with strong research activities in 3D textiles in China. Central to the meeting is the opportunity to discuss the latest concepts and share experiences in fabrication, performance and the use of design optimization tools across a wide spectrum of applications.

Announcement on the postponed 9th World Conference in 3D Fabrics and Their Applications

Dear Colleagues,

I hope everyone has been keeping safe and well amid the up and downs of the covid-19 pandemic during the past months.

I am writing firstly to thank those who have sent in their abstracts for the 9th World Conference in 3D Fabrics and Their Applications before the Covid-19 outbreak. As you know, we planned to have this Conference on 2 – 3 April 2020 but had to get it postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It has come to the decision that this Conference will be held on 8 and 9 April 2021, organised by TexEng Software Ltd and Northwest Composite Centre at the University of Manchester and hosted by Zhongyuan University of Technology, China. The Conference will be organised online using Zoom, while delegates from within China may go to Zhengzhou for a physical meeting.

You will receive comments on your abstracts and recommendations on full paper writing together with the paper format. Registration to the Conference will start at a later stage (fees to be readjusted).

Selected papers to the conference will be published in the Springer journal of Applied Composite Materials.

We are experiencing a very special period, but scientific and technological developments and exchange will go on. Let us work together to have a successful 9th Conference of this series to benefit us all.

Kind regards,
Professor Constantinos Soutis
Dr Xiaogang Chen
Co-Chairs of the Conference

An important announcement

The 9th World Conference in 3D Fabrics and Their Applications was planned to take place on 2 and 3 April 2020 in Zhengzhou, China. The recent coronavirus outbreak in China has caused much attention and led to deaths of infected patients. The local governments have put limitation on people’s travelling in the most affected areas as a measure to restrain the spread of the disease, and it is, at the moment, hard to see when the situation will change for the better. To best protect our conference delegates against the outbreak of the virus, the organising committee of the conference has decided to postpone the conference until a later date that is absolutely safe to have the conference. Please accept our apologies if this would cause any inconvenience to you but our delegates’ health and safety are the top priority for considerations.

The Chinese authorities are working hard to put a control over the problem and let us hope the situation will revert soon. As the conference organiser, we will closely look into the situation and will propose another date for the conference when the conditions become satisfactory.

The abstracts submitted will still be reviewed and decisions will be sent to you in due time and you will be advised to produce your full papers according to the conference paper format. Your collaboration will be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Xiaogang Chen, Co-Chair of Conference

On behalf of the Conference Organising Committee
